What this is

idunix is a reference for Linux identity and permissions. It indexes the user and group IDs assigned in distribution base packages and puts them side by side.

It reports what those packages state. Where a package is silent, the silence is recorded as silence rather than filled in with an assumption.

What it covers

The index is currently built from two source packages: base-passwd on Debian and alpine-baselayout on Alpine Linux. Both are listed with their version and commit on every page that uses them.

Other distributions are not in the matrix. They will be added when their source package has been verified and recorded in the data, and not before. A column of estimated numbers would be worse than no column.
